Looking for resin flooring, polished concrete, industrial flooring and more? Quest industrial flooring ltd install some of the best industrial flooring systems across all industry sectors.
Essentially, polished concrete flooring is made from a basic combination of cement, gravel, sand, and water. Unlike a concrete floor, however, this is then stripped back and honed to create a polished finish with either a glossy or matte appearance – depending on your preferred aesthetic.
Not only does this type of flooring deliver a seamless look and increased sleekness, but it’s also a highly economical option as the durable surface is guaranteed to last for a very long time.
Most polished concrete floors are therefore an ideal floor finish for a wide range of settings, including shop floors, commercial environments, kitchen installations, and residential projects to name but a few.
Industrial concrete flooring that has been highly polished is increasingly popular because of the associated benefits.
As one of the best polished concrete suppliers in the country, we’re skilled and experienced in HTC SUPERFLOORTM. This is a revolutionary process, which grinds and polishes the concrete using specialist diamond tools.
Concrete flooring has a broad range of advantages.
For example:
Many products that are used to build homes contain a large group of chemicals known as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). Polished concrete flooring is a low VOC flooring type. Compared to others, this type of flooring is an exceptionally low contributor to greenhouse gases.
Also, when they are installed correctly and properly maintained, polished concrete floors should never need to be replaced, making them a very sustainable flooring option.

Whilst a new polished concrete floor is shiny, it is not at all slippery.
In fact, compared to ordinary concrete floor, the friction is increased due to the process of mechanically grinding and flattening the floor. This makes polished concrete flooring a much safer option than some other flooring types.
As an expert in refining concrete floors, there are occasions when a more rapid polishing technique is required compared to utilising a planetary floor grinder. The Hipertrowel™ approach proves to be optimal for industrial floors spanning 500 m² and beyond. Whether it’s newly laid concrete slabs or existing older floors, the Hipertrowel™ system can effectively process them. With the Hipertrowel™ system, you have the capability to create a sleek, operational, and dust-free floor with impressive reflectivity.
The sealing process transforms porous concrete into a surface that is extremely dense.
Because of this, anything spilt onto a polished concrete floor won’t be able to penetrate the surface, thereby preventing stains.
Similarly, given the continuous, seamless surface dirt has nowhere to hide or get trapped – giving customers a significant advantage over other flooring options, such as tiles or laminate, which can be grooved and therefore harder to keep truly clean, without aggressive scrubbing.
As concrete is an excellent conductor of heat, polished concrete flooring is the perfect choice to be installed over an underfloor heating system.
Even without underfloor heating, a concrete floor is a warmer solution than most other flooring types. This is because a concrete floor will absorb and hold the heat from the sun, saving you money on your heating bill per square foot.
How much will your polished concrete floor cost? Ultimately this depends on the project itself.

There are 3 key stages to the install of most polished concrete floors, including:
Before we can start, we will inspect the subfloor, the substrate, and the site to determine if there will be any issues with the existing floor structure or installation.
This can include removing small sections in discreet areas to ensure we know what is below before we start excavating completely.
Then, we’ll excavate, levelling the floor to the desired level with two sand layers before covering it with a steel mesh.
The concrete pour will then be started, taking the level of the concrete slab up to the preferred height – usually around 10cm thick if we aren’t replacing the whole surface.
Depending on the size of your site, the freshly poured concrete can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to set.
The following day, we make expansion cuts in the floor, which allows the cracks caused by shrinkage to form in neat lines. We then fill these lines with a colour-matched, expandable sealant, to ensure every inch is laid perfectly smooth and keep the seamless link customers prefer.
Once the final surface is solid, it can then be cleaned, polished, and sealed.
As part of our treatment process, we use diamond polishing tools to finish the polished concrete floor to a grit level of either 800, 1,500, or 3,000 – as the higher the grit level used with diamond polishing tools, the shinier the floor will be.
Essentially, polished concrete is a concrete floor that has been stripped back and honed to create a glossy or matte appearance. It’s made from a basic combination of cement, gravel, sand and water. Not only is this type of flooring sleek and seamless, it’s also a highly economical option. Additionally, thanks to its smooth yet durable surface, it’s guaranteed to last for a very long time.
The process of creating polished concrete is very simple. First, we mechanically refine the concrete surface by removing the top layer. This reveals the stronger layers that lie underneath. We then grind and polish the surface in small steps, until the desired characteristics have been achieved.
There’s no need for any sludge or water. This innovative grinding process is completely dry and hassle-free and the results are highly impressive – creating a floor that is smooth, glossy and hard-wearing.
The cost of a polished concrete floor is determined by several factors. For example, it will depend on whether you wish to use new or existing concrete, the type of finish you would like and the size of the space. But rest assured, here at Quest, our polished concrete costs are very competitive. Customer satisfaction is very important to us and we always strive to offer the best possible price.

Professional, polished concrete floors – that have been properly installed and sealed by Quest Flooring – can last 20 years or more with regular, easy maintenance. The smooth and durable surface is easy to keep clean, with no aggressive scrubbing required.
Absolutely! In fact, that’s one of the reasons that our polished concrete flooring is so popular at Quest Flooring – it’s one of the most eco-friendly flooring solutions on the market. As it is made up of rock and water, it’s highly durable, meaning it needs replacing less often than other flooring types. It’s also easy to recycle, reducing its carbon footprint. Additionally, when polished, concrete has a reflective surface, saving you money on heating costs.
Whilst polished concrete appears to be very shiny and smooth, it is not at all slippery. This is because it actually has a very rough surface at microscopic level, giving it much more friction than other flooring types such as tiles. Its attractive appearance, combined with its safe, non-slip surface, makes it very popular for a variety of commercial and domestic applications. Contact Quest Flooring today for a quote.
The time it takes to install polished concrete floors depends on the size of the room and the temperature, as well as the chosen installation method.
However, as a guideline, for a 10cm thick floor you should allow at least 48 hours before walking on it, and 7-10 days for any heavy equipment or vehicular traffic.
When we attend your premises to provide a quote for installation, we will give you a more accurate timeline for when you can use your polished concrete floors, based on the requirements of your specific project.
It’s important to reseal your polished concrete floors regularly to preserve and protect them. How often you should do this depends on your individual circumstances, but between every two and five years is usually sufficient.
Polished concrete floors in high-traffic locations will need to be resealed more regularly than those that are used less frequently. Similarly, if you use your polished concrete floors to store heavy equipment or caustic chemicals, you’ll need to reseal more often.
Another factor that can influence how often you’ll need to reseal your polished concrete floors is the climate. This is because exposure to any kind of intense weather, including high humidity, can impact the life of your floor. As concrete is porous, the freeze-thaw cycle can cause cracks and degradation of your polished concrete floors. Resealing them regularly can help to prevent this.
If you have any questions about resealing polished concrete floors, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our experts.
