With more than 400,000 workplace injuries being reported in 2020/2021, many caused by trips or falls due to ill-maintained flooring, it’s never been more important to have high-quality, durable flooring installed in your commercial premises.
And one of the best floorings to choose from is resin, due to its strength and durability. Here at Quest Flooring, we are a certified member of the Resin Flooring Association (FeRFA) and industrial resin flooring specialists.
Epoxy resin flooring – intended for coating surface applications – is cured with chemicals to form a surface that is long-lasting and durable. Other benefits to industrial resin flooring include:
Benefits of Resin Flooring
- Strength – as an incredibly strong surface, resin flooring is ideal for use in garages and car parks, for example, where there is consistent, heavy traffic
- Safety – commercial resin flooring is extremely safe, as it is proven to reduce any slips or falls in the workplace
- Fire-resistant – with the ability to withstand up to 200°, epoxy flooring is ideal if heat is prevalent in an environment, such as a commercial kitchen, and can make any incidences of fire easier to control – and can even limit the spread of fire
- Full coverage – resin flooring can be installed over the entirety of an existing floor surface. This can increase the functionality of the floor and change the appearance of the existing floor
- Cost-effective – epoxy flooring is inexpensive compared to other floors, per square footage. Installation costs are low, as are replacement costs
- Shock-resistant – as well as having high resistance to shock, resin flooring is also resistant to hot and cold thermal stress – which makes it the perfect flooring choice in commercial setting, such as food retail outlets
- Damage-resistant – industrial resin flooring is resistant to cracks, erosion and splits. If correctly cured, it will also be resistant to moisture and withstand heavy weights
- Weather-resistant – resin flooring is resistant to both extreme hot and cold weather due to its strength and durability
- Aesthetically pleasing – commercial resin flooring doesn’t have to be boring! It comes in a wide variety of design, colours and finishes to brighten up any workplace
- Seamless-surface finish – resin flooring provides a smooth surface, which completely hides any edges
Different types of commercial resin Flooring
Here at Quest Flooring, we offer a number of different types of commercial resin flooring and seals, which are recommended by the FeRFA, including:
Floor Seal
Ideal for sealing concrete flooring and for light duty industrial dust-proofing, this type of floor seal is available in both matte and gloss finish. As a uniform colour, it is applied with a brush or a roller and will need to be re-applied every two years or so. Easy to clean and maintain, this resin floor seal offers limited chemical protection.
Floor Coating
With a lifespan of up to three years, this particular coating is applied using two coats – or more if you prefer. Utilised in light industrial environments, medium-duty warehouses and storage rooms, it can help the aesthetics of the floor – in either matte or gloss – and is slip-resistant.
High Build Floor Coating
Presenting a thicker coat – 300 to 1000 µm total thickness – this high build floor coating lasts for approximately seven years and comes in matte and gloss silk finishes. Ideal for medium-duty industrial environments, this resin flooring coating has good resistance to chemical spills and is impact-resistance to heavy traffic.
Multi-Layer Flooring
As its name suggests, this is based on multiple layers of floor coatings – or flow-applied flooring / sandwich systems – this particular resin flooring is very low slip-resistant, and is ideal for medium, heavy duty and busy industrial environments. It can come in various colours, depending on the aggregate used.
Flow-Applied Flooring
Otherwise known as self-levelling / self-smoothing commercial resin flooring, it is ideal for warehouses and hygienic areas, such as laboratories – due to its high chemical resistance. In medium-duty areas, it is expected to last up to eight years and up to four in heavier-duty environments. This particular industrial resin flooring also comes with the option of adding decorative elements, to suit the surroundings or business colours.
Resin Screed Flooring
Used in a wide variety of environments including engineering works, warehouses and industrial, commercial resin screed flooring is not recommended where there are chemicals present, as chemical resistance is poor. As a heavily-filled trowel-finished system, this particular flooring usually involves a surface seal to keep it hygienic and slip-resistant. As long as this seal coat is maintained on a regular basis, this floor can last up to 12 years in medium-duty environments with heavy-duty being a bit less – up to seven years.
Heavy Duty Flowable Flooring
With good impact and chemical-resistance, this commercial resin flooring is aggregate filled and can be used in both very heavy-duty and heavy-duty environments. With a lifespan of up to 10 years in heavy-duty environments and up to 8 years in very heavy-duty environments, it can be finished with a very smooth, gloss surface, or in matte.
Heavy Duty Screed Flooring
This particularly flooring can hold heavy loads of machinery and general traffic, and is completely water-resistant. It is also chemical and impact-resistant and is hygienic, if cleaned regularly. As an aggregate-filled system that is trowel-finished, this resin screen flooring can last up to 12 years.
